Using Rhodiola For Stress And Depression

Stress and depression are all too common in our world today.  In fact antidepressants are one of the top prescribed categories of drugs, but for some people antidepressants aren’t the answer.  In some cases the symptoms aren’t severe enough to warrant taking these drugs or the side effects aren’t worth the benefit, others haven’t had enough success with them and some people want to try an alternative route first.  That’s where rhodiola rosea can play a vital role.

Rhodiola benefits the body in a number of ways, but it is most commonly known for its ability to help the mind and body handle stress and to alleviate depression.  Rhodiola is known as an adaptogen.  Adaptogens are named as such if they can improve the body’s resistance to a wide range of agents, help normalize reactions in the body, and do this all with minimal side effects.

Rhodiola rosea, when taken regularly for a period of time (at least a few weeks), can help reduce the reaction to stressors and decrease the over production of stress hormones.  It helps to curb over reactive stress responses, which besides creating a heightened state of stress can cause unnecessary wear and tear on the body.

By reducing the over response to stress, rhodiola helps improve energy reserves.  This is part of the reason it works for depression.  But rhodiola rosea also helps with depression because it boosts the production of feel good neurotransmitters.  Many people who start taking it regularly start to notice increased feelings of happiness.  The good news is that it has very little side effects; there are very few people who can’t tolerate rhodiola rosea.

Rhodiola rosea is a great option if you are looking for an alternative therapy to deal with stress and depression.  The good news is it will provide other benefits as well like increased energy and increased memory and focus.

Managing pain is not easy and although popping a pain killer can bring relief, it is often just temporary, and can recur in a matter of days. OklahomaChiropractor.org also adds that pain can significantly impede in your ability to be productive at work. Alternative Treatments for Anti Aging Ailments

Alternative treatments are all the rage right now no matter what your ailment. From back paint to arthritis holistic medicine and natural alternative treatments are what the baby boomers are looking for, but what about skin care?

We’ve been using the same cosmetic products and brands for for the last ten or twenty years, and until recently we haven’t really sought out alternative remedies or treatments for makeup, anti aging or even more serious ailments such as Roseca and acne.

Natural Anti Aging Treatments

There are holistic health practitioners who are beginning to market to the baby boomers offering holistic anti aging treatments such as cosmetic acupuncture and facial exercises and rejuvenation. The issue I personally have with these treatment procedures is that it’s difficult to prove whether they work or whether they don’t.

You see a wrinkle cream contains tested and proven anti aging ingredients that are expected to produce a particular result and work for the majority of women who try them. The same goes for other cosmetic and spa procedures such as laser skin care, microdermabrasion and even wrinkle filler injections such as Botox®. So aside from the natural and alternative nature of these other treatments what’s to say that they work?

The majority of cosmetic surgeons feel there is little effect from receiving most of these alternative anti aging treatments. Instead they believe the results women see is more of a placebo effect. Where they want to believe they look and feel better, but there are not actual concrete results.

So what’s the best alternative treatment for wrinkles, lines and other signs of aging?

Probably your best bet is to seek out an all natural wrinkle cream. One that contains no lab formulated chemicals but has been studied and proven to produce results. This way you’ll be sure that you’re not applying any harsh ingredients to your skin, but you’ll still reap the anti aging benefits.

The other alternative is to try out some home remedies for ailments such as under eye circles and puffiness. These can work well if done consistently.

Alternative Treatments for Tennis Elbow Pain

Tennis elbow pain can be really hard to get rid of if you follow the conventional way and only treat the symptoms, which is the normal course of treatment in conventional medicine. Normally, if you start having the first symptoms of tennis elbow pain, you will be told to rest your arm and stop doing any repetitive movement or heavy lifting.

Apart from that, you might have to apply cold ice packs to the elbow area, especially when that area is swollen, in order to calm down the inflammation and bring down the pain. Doctors will also give you painkillers so that you don´t have to suffer too much.

In many cases, giving your elbow the needed rest and ice treatments, the tennis elbow won´t play up again, but if it does, it might mean that it is time to think about an alternative treatment path, which will look at the cause of tennis elbow and deal with that.

Before you think that following this course of treatment will cost you an arm and a leg (no pun intended), think again, the best way to treat this type of pain is actually to perform exercises for tennis elbow.

Below you can see a few of these exercises to learn how to treat tennis elbow yourself at home:

As you see, these exercises really are not all that difficult. What you aim to accomplish is to improve the strength of those muscles in your forearm that can´t deal with the repetitive stress you put your elbow through each day. Some of the exercises will strenghten the muscles, while others will make them more flexible and you can even learn a few things that you can do to make the pain go away in a matter of minutes.

All very powerful information, especially when you get to think of the fact that normally you are required to take all sorts of painkillers in order to treat your tennis elbow pain.

Turning Over A New Leaf With A Trip To A Health Spa

I recently took a visit to an alternative health spa in Florida called the Hippocrates Institute to do a 3 week detox in an effort to clear out all the internal junk my body has accumulated over the last few years. Being a bit of a party animal I’ve been guilty of smoking too many cigarettes, drinking on a regular basis, and eating a diet too high in fat and sugar.

Before arriving at the health spa I tried to clean up my act as much as possible. I quit drinking a couple of weeks before and switched a vegetarian diet. I even started using a smokeless cigarette to help get my off the deadly tobacco sticks I’m so fond of, but nothing could prepare me for the cleansing experience waiting for me when I arrived in Palm Beach.

The regime at Hippocrates is pretty strict and is set up to help people recover from a range of serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes so it’s not for the faint of heart. Your diet consists of green juices three times a day, a couple of raw vegan meals and plenty of fresh water. There are also a range of spa treatments available to help you relax, as well as a few pools, saunas, and an exercise gym.

For the first week I was there I felt incredibly weak and thought the diet here was having an adverse effect but once we got into the second week I really started to pick up and felt like I had far more energy than normal. By the time I had completed my three weeks I felt like a new person, I had even overcome my addiction to tobacco and was feeling good about started a nicotine free life.

Whether I’m manage to keep up my new lifestyle is another matter altogether but I’m certainly going to try and stick to the healthful diet I’ve leant about. There’s no doubt that eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in the form of salads and green juices is good for your health so it’s certainly something that’s worth working into your life. If you are interested in learning about how to do so then I can definitely recommend you take a trip to the Hippocrates Institute to find out more about it for yourself.

Can Exercise Relieve Upper Back Pain?

The most common cause of upper back pain is poor posture, and most of the time this can be relieved by simple exercise. However, it is imperative to consult with a physician before attempting any exercise aimed at relieving pain. This is because in some cases an underlying disorder may be more severe than you suspect, and exercises which would otherwise be helpful can cause further damage.

For those who have suffered from a recent injury in the neck or in any upper part of the back, your doctor might recommend hot and cold therapy to lessen the inflammation, and after the inflammation has subsided then an exercise regimen can be followed. The next thing to consider is the kind of exercise to perform. This article will provide just a brief overview; here is an article which will go into more depth about which exercises are most helpful for relieving upper back pain.

The exercises you’ll want are a combination of strengthening and stretching exercises. Depending on the severity of your injury, these exercises should be prescribed and monitored by your physician or physical therapist. It is important to take it slow, especially since the neck section is quite vulnerable.
