Tips to Keeping A Strong Core

Core exerciseExercise is important. It helps to stimulate the mind, increase metabolism, decrease the chance of heart disease, and improve muscle health. While there are many exercises available, depending on an individual’s schedule and personal preference, most trainers agree that a strong core is needed to engage in most exercises and sports. While everyone has some basic muscle tone in their abdomens, the key to strengthen core muscles is focusing on that particular area of the body. Doing situps is a great basic exercise that builds core muscle. Yoga and pilates are two types of fitness programs that focus on building and improving core muscles.

A relatively new development in the fitness world is the electronic ab belt. These belts use electric impulses to contract ab muscles that may be difficult to exercise and tone in a typical workout. Electric ab stimulators were developed in rehab situations for victims who had to remain sedentary for long periods of time. Without being used, muscles atrophy and are extremely difficult to build up again. To prevent this atrophy, electrodes were attached to the muscle and a low level electrical pulse would stimulate the muscle to contract. Muscle groups could remain active this way, helping with a patient’s recovery. This same technology has been developed for ab muscles.

Electronic ab belts are fairly easy to use. A thick belt is attached to the midsection of the body, and will fasten in the back. Inside the belt are electrodes or other electricity emitting devices. The belts usually come with a small remote that can change the intensity of the electric impulse being transmitted. For those who have never used an ab belt, the lowest setting should be used first and then the setting can be made higher over time. These ab belts can help improve muscle tone in the abs and are simple to use.
